New York Giants fans may breathe easy after learning that the organization and star running back Saquon Barkley have reached a contract agreement.

The Giants, whose training camp formally begins on Wednesday, are relieved that they won’t have to deal with the circumstance daily.

“Obviously we are glad we were able to work things out with Saquon.”

“We all recognize the player and person Saquon is and what he means to our team. He is a good teammate, a leader and a really good player. We are looking forward to getting on the field tomorrow.”

General Manager Joe Schoen

The situation was over when Barkley finally gave in and accepted a contract worth $10.091 million, which was the same as the franchise tag tender. By designating $2 million as an upfront signing bonus and including $910,000 in potential incentive payments, the Giants made the contract more enticing for Barkley.

After this season, Saquon Barkley was not released from a potential second franchise tag. If they cannot secure Barkley’s long-term contract by next March, the Giants still have that choice.

Barkley’s contract for 2023, or around $12–13 million, would be at risk if he were to be tagged again. The total comes to $23 million, or what the Giants gave Barkley during earlier discussions. Add that to his potential $11 million contract this year, and you have $23 million.

Barkley was allegedly in the building on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m., indicating he was prepared to take the field.
