On Saturday, a group of Tigers pitchers teamed for a no-hitter, and one of their own finished the job.

Alex Lange came into a 2-0 game in the eighth inning and shut it out on 10 pitches. With a 90% strike rate, he only walked one batter and struck out one.

The last out was recorded by third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who was hit by a pitch from Lange and grounded out. At this point in the season, Lange is tenth in the American League with 13 saves.

The ERA+ of 114 is a personal best for Lange. After a successful career as a starter for LSU, the Tigers moved Lange to their relief rotation. His 29.2% strikeout rate is good for 23rd-best among AL relievers.

At 27, he’s a key cog in Detroit’s lineup and someone they can count on in crunch time. After 134.2 career innings, Lange’s earned run average is at 3.68.

Kevin Gausman, the Detroit starter, is a product of the LSU baseball programme as well.
