Angels’ Shohei Ohtani Might Miss Next Starting Game Against Rangers Due to Arm Fatigue
Shohei Ohtani, top pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, will not make his next planned start on Wednesday against the Texas Rangers due to arm fatigue, according to a report.
Manager Phil Nevin informed reporters before Sunday’s game against the Texas Astros that the two-way star is resting his aching arms but would continue to serve as the team’s designated hitter.
“He feels good at the plate,” Nevin told the AP. When he takes a swing, he reports feeling OK. Right now, it’s just the throwing; he’s experiencing the typical weariness in his throwing arm.
Ohtani is not hurt, Nevin insisted to reporters, saying the right-hander would pitch in the upcoming home series against the Reds starting on August 21.
“I’ve told you guys many times that he knows his body better than anybody,” Nevin said of the individual. When he talks about it, I believe what he says.
He has told me that there is no discomfort or damage. He’s suffering from the occasional occurrence of weariness in his arms. I believe him when he says he’s prepared for his next suspension.
The 29-year-old had an impressive 2.17 earned run average (ERA) heading into Sunday’s contest. At the start of this month, he hit his 40th home run of the season, which put him in first place in the league.
That night, he recorded his 600th career strikeout despite having to abandon pitching due to trouble extending his right middle finger.
Ohtani has started 22 times as a pitcher while appearing in 116 of the Angels’ 118 games this season.
He hasn’t had a day off as a starting pitcher since early May, so this is a welcome change. Since he was taken out of a game in the ninth inning on July 28, he hasn’t left a game early.
