Darvin Ham Increases Anthony Davis's Pressure To Win DPOY Award

Over the previous several seasons, Anthony Davis has probably been the NBA’s finest defender.

After his remarks from Saturday went viral, Los Angeles Lakers head Coach Darvin Ham put undue pressure on big man Anthony Davis to win the Defensive Player of the Year title in the 2023–24 NBA season.

The greatest Lakers reporter of all time, Mike Trudell, revealed Ham’s remarks on Twitter on Davis’s candidature for the DPOY prize this season.

Even though Ham’s remarks are obviously spoken out of love, respect, and adoration, Davis will now have even more pressure to produce, which may work to his advantage.

Anthony Davis: The finest NBA defender

Though his lack of consistency has been a problem for him recently, Davis is still maybe the finest defender in the NBA.

In light of the team’s difficulties after Davis’ impressive performance to win the first NBA In-Season Tournament, maybe Ham is putting more pressure on Davis early on.

If he stays healthy, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez of the Milwaukee Bucks are the only players who stand a chance to defeat Davis for DPOY.
