Canelo Alvarez Acknowledges He Is Not Only “Best Boxer In World”
The Mexican champion acknowledges that other fighters view him as the world’s finest pound-for-pound fighter despite his confidence in his abilities.
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has taken some time to discuss his career while preparing for his highly awaited fight against Jermell Charlo, which is predicted to be a grand celebration.
The legendary Mexican boxing champion, regarded as the finest boxer in the world on a pound-for-pound basis, will compete in front of tens of thousands of spectators to maintain his position at the top, even if he no longer views this as an exclusive event.
The Aztec fighter will compete in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, September 30.
This comes after Alvarez stated that he no longer views himself as the only and greatest fighter in the world in an interview with Brian Custer on The Last Stand Podcast.
Alvarez remarked that we all, pound by pound, deserve to be the number one. It is disrespectful to place one person at the top because there are so many excellent fighters, including Inoue, Crawford, Usyk, and many more. And we all deserve to be ranked first.
The fact that he now feels he has shown that he is the best fighter in the world has attracted a lot of attention because, until a few weeks ago, he claimed that only Tyson Fury could compete with him. But those times are gone now.
Canelo currently owns the super middleweight world titles of the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organization (WBO), and International Boxing Federation (IBF) with a professional boxing record of 59-2-2.
Alvarez eager to defeat Jermell Charlo
There are only a few days until Jermell Charlo, and according to Canelo, he already knows what Charlo’s “biggest” weapons will be and how the American fighter plans to use them against him.
The physical alterations Charlo underwent have been widely discussed, mainly the rumors’ of Jermell’s weight gain; yet, the Mexican says he is prepared to face Jermell.
Canelo discusses the strategies Charlo may employ against him in a promotional interview for the bout. Still, he also says he is accustomed to fighting in various styles because he has been competing since he was 15.
The career-ending information that Canelo Alvarez revealed
At a series of news conferences, both combatants started promoting the match. Canelo disclosed something during one of them that puzzled the boxing community, though no one gave it any attention.
Does Canelo’s impending retirement worry him? When will he retire? He responded directly because of the numerous blows to his body during his boxing career.
“I think I have at least four more years left, maybe five. I’ve been a professional boxer since I was 15 years old. That’s almost 18 years of fighting professionally. I always said I would retire when I was 36. Or 37, around that age. That should be more than enough, that’s so many years of boxing. By then, I’ll have achieved a lot of things and then I’ll have to enjoy life with the family and everything.”
