Coco Gauff Qualifies For Semifinals Of The US Open
The US Open competition has advanced Coco Gauff to the semifinals. She is the first American adolescent to do it since Serena Williams in 2001, when she reached the US Open semifinals.
The US Open, held in New York, is one of four annual Grand Slam tennis competitions, along with Wimbledon, that draw elite players from around the world. The Australian Open is held in Melbourne, whereas the other two are held in Paris.
Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic will now face Coco to advance to the championship.
Throwback to Coco Gauff
Cori Gauff, known by her stage name “Coco,” has made headlines since the professional era of tennis began in 1968 for becoming the youngest player to qualify for the main Wimbledon draw at 15 years and 122 days.
She is now rated sixth in the world in women’s tennis, with five singles victories and eight doubles trophies on the WTA Tour. She has yet to win a major title. She did, however, qualify for the 2022 French Open.
Coco Gauff (19) and Ben Shelton (20) are the first Americans aged 20 or younger to reach the semi-finals of the same Grand Slam since Venus and Serena Williams at the 2000 Wimbledon.
Coco was born and reared in Atlanta, Georgia, before moving to Florida to pursue her tennis dreams. She began playing tennis when she was about six years old.
She became the world’s top junior after winning the junior French Open singles championship in 2018 and a junior Grand Slam doubles title at the US Open.
Her parents are quite busy. Her mother was a track and field athlete at Florida State University, and her father was a basketball player at Georgia State.
She is the first American kid to reach the semifinals since Serena Williams in 2001. Coco’s two younger brothers are Cody and Cameron.
Coco enjoys spending time with her family, watching superhero movies, listening to Beyoncé, and making TikTok videos. Pere Riba and Brad Gilbert, who previously worked with Andy Murray, are her coaches.
According to Gauff, Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, and her sister Venus inspired her to take up tennis. “Serena is the reason I play tennis and why my father decided to get me a racket,” Coco explained.
“[My first memories] are of watching Serena play at Wimbledon, and she won, though I don’t remember which year she won, she has won so many times.”
However, the famous sisters are also Coco admirers. “She’s so cool,” Serena stated at a press conference. She’s a wonderful young lady. I adore her father. They’re just great individuals.”
