Next month, former President Donald Trump’s South Florida golf property was planned to host Jordan Poyer‘s charity event at Donald Trump’s course.
Several teams and sponsors withdrew from Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer’s annual golf charity tournament, which he disclosed on Instagram on Saturday.
According to him, the event’s venue was the cause of the abrupt problem.
The former president’s golf club, Trump National Doral, in South Florida, planned to host Poyer’s charitable event the next month.
“Unfortunately, the location of the event led to a few sponsors and golfers withdrawing at the last minute due to external pressures.”
“While it’s disappointing, I respect their decision. Nevertheless, we will persevere.”
Jordan Poyer wrote on his Instagram post.
Unknown is the exact number of sponsors or teams that left the competition. The Buffalo News said the event was planned to raise money for the ECMC Foundation. Poyer called them a “big sponsor,” but the organization insisted they were just the event’s beneficiaries.
In a letter to the Buffalo News, Susan Gonzalez, executive director of the EMC Foundation, said,
“The EMC Foundation was fortunate to be a beneficiary of Jordan Poyer’s golf tournament in Florida.”
“Although the Foundation was not a sponsor, we have had an excellent partnership with Jordan, and we respect his decision to cancel his tournament. We hope he will consider supporting us in his future events.”
Donald Trump has lost golf tournaments at his properties before. In the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021, uprising at the US Capitol, the PGA of America severed connections with Trump and relocated the 2022 PGA Championship from his Bedminster and New Jersey.
Trump has long aspired to have a British Open played at his Turnberry golf facility in Scotland, but the R&A announced earlier this month that it wouldn’t do so while Trump owns both properties.
About five years before Trump’s course ownership, Turnberry last played home to the British Open in 2009. Several LIV Golf competitions have been based on Trump’s methods.
In 12 games with the Bills last season, Poyer recorded 63 total tackles and four interceptions, which was good for 10th in the league. The 32-year-old previously agreed to a new two-year, $12.5 million contract with the organization this summer.
