Eddie Hearn Responds To Bellew’s Claim, Talks Between Joshua & Deontay Wilder Ceased
Both Joshua and Deontay Wilder have held the title, but both have lost in difficult back-to-back losses to the current holders, Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.
Despite all the efforts to make the fight happen in Saudi Arabia, Tony Bellew recently confirmed allegations that the discussions between the Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury had split, and AJ’s camp was now speaking with Tyson Fury instead.
Hearn spoke with Boxing Social about the many rumours surrounding potential heavyweight matches. “If you read Twitter, it’s ‘AJ-Wilder might not happen; it might be AJ-Fury; Fury might fight Usyk or Usyk might fight Hrgovic’.”
The promoter continued by saying that organizing the bout with Wilder is still his priority and that he hasn’t had “really” any discussions with Fury’s management. From my perspective, we want to attempt to nail and progress the one we’ve been talking about for a few months.”
He stated that Joshua is anxious to fight again soon, ideally against Wilder, but that this is not a foregone conclusion. “AJ wants to fight because he enjoys the activity. If he can’t fight in January, I believe he’ll fight in December.
Nonetheless, we aim to complete the Wilder transaction.” Because of recent heavyweight disappointments, the boxing community is eagerly anticipating confirmation of what would be a tremendous showdown.
