After surprising everyone by re-signing Ezekiel Elliott just a year after he was cut from his lucrative contract, the Dallas Cowboys have proven to be a team that never gives up.
General manager Jerry Jones announced on Thursday that the running back and quarterback Dak Prescott will be playing together for a second stint with the NFC East team.
After the Cowboys passed up the opportunity to select a new running back in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Jones later disclosed that the team was in talks with the 28-year-old for a surprise comeback, the move has surprised commentators and fans in equal measure.
Accompanying him in the competition for a starting position under Mike McCarthy are Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and Royce Freeman. The parameters of his new contract have been negotiated; however, the specifics have not yet been made public.
The precise amount of Elliott’s personal wealth is reportedly unknown. As of April 2024, Wealthy Gorilla claims to have a net worth of $25 million; however, Celebrity Net Worth reports a higher amount, up to $35 million.
In the 2016 NFL Draft, the Cowboys selected him with the fourth overall choice. He agreed to a $24.9 million contract that included a $16.3 million signing bonus. The Cowboys offered him a $7 million signing bonus and a guaranteed $50 million salary when he signed a six-year, $90 million contract in September 2020.
But after just two years of service, the Cowboys set him loose, and he signed with the New England Patriots, where his guaranteed $12 million compensation was reduced to just $3 million.

In 2015, Ezekiel Elliott was named to the Ohio State football team’s second team All-America, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in collegiate football.
Along with finishing his debut season as the NFL‘s leading rusher with 1,631 yards overall—the third-highest total for a rookie—he would go on to establish himself as a vital member of their team before opting to go in 2023 to join the Patriots.
His $6 million maximum basic salary plus performance-based bonuses in his Patriots contract reflected a significant pay drop from his Cowboys compensation. It’s reasonable to state, however, that he was short of expectations since he finished the 2023 season with just 642 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
