Football Association Investigates Alleged Elbow Incident
The committee in charge of Premier League referees said that the assistant referee who appeared to elbow Liverpool’s Andy Robertson during an English Premier League game on Sunday would only be part of the fun once English football’s regulatory body examines the incident.
The incident that occurred after Liverpool’s game against Arsenal in Anfield’s first half is being looked into by the Football Association (FA).
On the pitch, Constantine Hatzidakis was approached by Robertson, a 29-year-old defender.
Replays of the incident seemed to show Hatzidakis reacting by lifting his elbow, which the player was struck by, as Robertson looked to breeze by him.
After earning a yellow card for his second outburst, Robertson was enraged and had to be restrained by his teammates.
While the FA looks into the incident involving the assistant referee and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at Anfield, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) declared it will not appoint Constantine Hatzidakis to fixtures of the competitions it serves.
Roy Keane, a Sky Sports analyst and former Manchester United midfielder chastised Robertson for his response, stating the player “should be more worried about his defence.”
In contrast, Chris Sutton, a former Premier League striker, told the BBC that the assistant referee would have to be disciplined.
“I really don’t know what he was thinking.” “As far as I can see, he has to be banned,”
Chris Sutton said.
The incident at the intermission was one of several flashpoints in a tumultuous match at Anfield that ultimately ended in a 2-2 tie.
Also, it comes after Aleksandar Mitrovic, a striker for Fulham, was given an eight-game suspension for shoving referee Chris Kavanagh during the team’s FA Cup loss to Manchester United last month.
Andy Robertson is a Scottish professional footballer who plays left-back for Liverpool FC and the Scotland National Team.
