Chelsea Players & Cole Palmer Respond To Pochettino's Shocking Exit

With just one season in charge, Cole Palmer has led the Chelsea players’ homage to Mauricio Pochettino. After leading their team to victory in their final five games of the season, the Argentine departs one year into a two-year contract.

But several of the players seemed taken aback by the announcement after his future was the focus of an internal end-of-season evaluation that involved the owners and Chelsea’s sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.

“Gaffer, thank you for everything you have done for me and for helping me realize my dreams. Best wishes to all.”

Nicolas Jackson, who first shared a face-palm emoji on social media before saying, “I love you, coach,” seemed to disagree with the choice. Would that we could spend more time together.

In the latter months of the season, Marc Cucurella—who had possibly found his greatest form in a Chelsea shirt since his high-profile transfer from Brighton—also gave praise to Pochettino.

“I’m grateful for everything, Mr.” The Spanish person sent many shocked-face emojis along with the words, “Good luck in the future.”

Jackson also posted a post made earlier in the season by Argentine manager Pochettino, in which he expressed his desire to “build something special” at Stamford Bridge and said he was “extremely proud and happy” with his team.

Legendary member of the team John Terry expressed his sadness about Pochettino’s departure, saying, “I just hope we do not acquire or sell any players until we have an interim leader in.”

A club statement said that after speaking with co-owner Behdad Eghbali, the decision to split ways was made by mutual consent.

In a joint statement, Winstanley and Stewart said,

“We would like to offer our gratitude to Mauricio for his contribution this season on behalf of everyone at Chelsea.”

In a club statement, Pochettino expressed gratitude to Chelsea’s ownership group and stated,

“The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”

Prominent contenders for the position include Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town and Roberto De Zerbi, who left Brighton amicably a while ago.

When Chelsea plays Wrexham in Santa Clara, California on July 23, in their first preseason game, the new manager will be in control.

The calendar also includes matches against Real Madrid, Manchester City, Celtic, and Club America.
