In A First, & In Era of Ford Field, Lions Sell Out 2023 Season.
Fans of the Detroit Lions can sense change in the air. Its the era of Ford Field and all tickets for the Detroit’s Lions are sold out.
Less than a year after they were vying for a playoff spot, the Lions sold out of season tickets at Ford Field for the first time in club existence, the organization said on Thursday.
In a statement, Lions president and CEO Rod Wood said, “This is an exciting time for our franchise. The achievement of this milestone coincides with the 90th season of Detroit Lions football, which makes the occasion even more remarkable.
Although it is a first for the Lions at Ford Field, a team representative was unable to confirm that it was also a first for the organization. Before the NFL and AFL merged in 1970, Detroit had four NFL titles.
This is the most recent illustration of how the perception of one of the most struggling teams in recent NFL history is changing.
The squad started the 2022 season with merely a 1-6 record after finishing 3-13-1 the previous year. After that, the Lions won eight of their remaining 11 games to finish the regular season 9-8 and just miss the playoffs.
Going into the 2023 season, Detroit’s situation appears to be even better. The Lions have the fourth-best odds (+850) to win the NFC and are the betting favorite (+130) to win the NFC North.
Additionally, Detroit has the lowest odds of any team in its division to advance to the postseason (-175).
For a squad that has had the second-worst winning percentage since 2002 and just three postseason appearances throughout that time, that represents a significant turnaround. The field test is the only thing left to complete.
