Jamal Murray, Strained Hamstring “Not A One- Or Two-Game Injury”
The hamstring injury that Jamal Murray sustained will keep him out longer than simply missing Wednesday’s game against the Warriors and Stephen Curry.
Murray may be out for some time, according to Nuggets coach Michael Malone, who stated that this is more than just a one- or two-game issue. The complete quote may be seen here, courtesy of Bennett Durando of the Denver Post.
“His injury won’t go away after one or two games, but we’ll kind of keep talking to our physicians about it. I am aware of that. This will take longer than we would have liked to…
You need to be thinking long term and making sure we’re getting him well enough for his return. Because hamstring or soft tissue injuries can persist and worsen if they are sustained repeatedly. And that’s the one thing we wish never to occur.”
After defeating the similarly depleted Pelicans sans Murray, the Nuggets now face six straight games away from home, with the Clippers, who recently signed James Harden, serving as their lone home game.
This might be a difficult stretch even though Nikola Jokic is playing at an MVP level and conducting his own news conferences. Malone is correct, though, in that the Nuggets cannot expect Murray to return for games in November when they are a club that wants to win in May and June.
Murray is averaging 16.3 points per game and shooting 43.8% from outside the arc while handing out 7.4 assists per game for a club that has only lost once and is looking dominating in the West to start the season. Murray is playing like the All-Star he deserves to be.
Malone started using Collin Gillespie as a backup point guard against the Pelicans after Jamal Murray was out, moving Reggie Jackson into the starting lineup.
