The National Women’s Soccer League will once again welcome Julie Ertz.

The team said the midfielder for the USWNT and two-time Player of the Year had signed a one-year contract with Angel City F.C. on Monday.

It is the most recent stage in Ertz’s return to professional football following the birth of her child in August.

“I am so thrilled to be joining one of the most exciting clubs in the world in Angel City F.C.” “From the moment they traded for my rights up until now, they have been unwavering in their support of my journey. I cannot wait to get to work with the team and finally experience the amazing game day atmosphere.”

The Chicago Red Stars, who took Ertz with the third overall choice in 2014, were where she last competed in the NWSL.

She participated in 95 games for the team, scored six goals, and helped them make seven consecutive postseason trips. Since 2021, she hasn’t attended the NWSL.

Ertz has also been a stalwart for the USWNT. In addition to winning a bronze medal with the squad at the Tokyo Olympics, she helped the United States win the World Cup in 2015 and 2019 with her assistance.

She featured in the second half of Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Ireland for the USWNT, her first time playing with the team since the Games earlier this month.

The 31-year-old Ertz is preparing to be named to the Women’s World Cup squad this summer in Australia and New Zealand.

“Julie is a world-class player who has proven herself time and again at both club and national team levels.” “In addition to her quality on the ball, she will help us defend higher up the field and against opponent transition.” Her leadership and World Cup and Olympic medal-winning experience will undoubtedly help us on our quest for a championship

Angel City F.C. is one of the newest clubs in the NWSL. The group entered the league in 2022 with San Diego Wave F.C. Northern California and Utah were added to the list of expansion goals for the organization in 2024, increasing the overall total of clubs to 14.

After a 2-2 tie on Saturday with Racing Louisville FC, Angel City is now 1-1-1 for the year. On Wednesday, they will compete against the O.L. Reign.

When Ertz, whose husband is a tight end, Zach Ertz of the Arizona Cardinals, will make her team debut is unknown.
