The tenure of Mark Jackson at ESPN has come to an end
Many were shocked by ESPN’s decision to fire Jackson on Monday. For almost 15 years, Jackson has been a mainstay of ESPN’s NBA coverage. Sadly, this distinguished tenure has finally come to an end. Following his departure, the network replaced Jackson and Van Gundy with former Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers and veteran ESPN basketball analyst Doris Burke.
ESPN considered establishing a partnership with Jackson and Mark Jones for its initial secondary NBA coverage. Nevertheless, according to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, the network changed its mind because of JJ Redick and Richard Jefferson’s outstanding jobs as NBA game commentators.
Due to this choice, Mark Jackson’s position on the NBA coverage team for ESPN may have been put on hold. The fact that the network believed he performed best when teamed with Van Gundy made it more difficult for him.
From this vantage point, it appeared confident that Jackson’s employment would end shortly after the network fired Van Gundy on June 30. Between 2006 and 2011, Breen and Van Gundy collaborated with Jackson, a former NBA point guard.
Jackson’s tenure as the Golden State Warriors head coach ended in 2014. He then went back to ESPN. For nine years, Breen, Van Gundy, and Jackson delivered NBA analysis on ESPN. Sadly, the time spent working together has abruptly ended for this legendary broadcasting pair.
