Pete Alonso “Must Sign” Deal With Mets; Darryl Strawberry
Darryl Strawberry urged the Mets to sign first baseman Pete Alonso to a long-term contract on Instagram on Thursday, with the slugger approaching his final season of team control and his future still up in the air.
“Peter Alonso has to be signed by the Mets to a long-term deal.” “He’ll break all previous franchise records for home runs. In the competitive world of New York City, only a small number of local players have succeeded every day [sic], and Alonso has proven he is one of them. Don’t let Pete go, just as David Wright, Jose Reyes, and I have. Keep using your natural skill!”

With 192 home runs in his six seasons with the Mets, Alonso is tied for fourth place all-time in the team’s history with Howard Johnson. Just trailing Mike Piazza’s 220, Strawberry’s 252, and Wright’s 242.
Presently, Pete Alonso, a former Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Star, is scheduled to become a free agency following the 2024 season.
