Rafael Devers Leads Red Sox Past Rays With 6th Straight Game Of Home Runs
The Red Sox defeated the Rays 5-0 on Monday night in Florida thanks in part to Rafael Devers.
Rafael Devers broke the team record in Florida on Monday night.
With only a few games remaining in the season, the star of the Boston Red Sox is practically unstoppable at the plate, and he doesn’t seem to be backing down.
On Monday at Tropicana Field, in Boston’s 5-0 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays, Rafael Devers hit a two-run home ball in the fourth inning. Devers blasted a home run for the sixth time in as many games, tying a Red Sox record and giving him the longest streak in Major League Baseball since 2022.
Devers’ run began last week at Fenway Park with the Red Sox losing 4-3 to the Rays. In his tenure, Devers has led the Red Sox to just two victories, but each time, he has delivered a home run. He ended Boston’s four-game losing streak, which was a season high, on Sunday by matching the team record with a two-run shot in the sixth inning of their 11-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
In the last five games, six other Red Sox players had blasted home runs. The last player to do so in 2020 was Bobby Dalbec. A seven-game home run streak was recorded by Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout in 2022. In 1993, Ken Griffey Jr. set the MLB record, which stands at eight games.
For the season, Devers has already blasted ten home runs, and he has at least one hit in each of the last ten Red Sox games. As reported by ESPN, his current six-game home run streak tied the record held by third basemen over the previous century.
