Real Madrid Defeated Sevilla In La Liga, Thanks To Modric Goal
There was a trademark strike by the Croatian.
With a close 1-0 victory over Sevilla on Sunday night at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid moved closer to winning La Liga.
Luka Modric‘s goal was sufficient to put Real Madrid eight points ahead of Barcelona in what turned out to be a very close and tense match.
Within the opening ten minutes of the game, Real Madrid appeared to have seized the lead after Sevilla’s initial huge chance. Vinicius Jr. found Lucas Vazquez with a brilliant pass.
After sprinting into the box, the right-back received the pass and executed a fantastic finish. But Nacho Fernandez’s foul during the build-up meant that the goal was later disallowed.
The defensive injuries of Real Madrid
With the injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao, Nacho has grown in importance for Real Madrid. Antonio Rudiger‘s recovery from his minor center-back position to start against Sevilla was also a huge plus.
Real Madrid produced little in the first half, save for a Fede Valverde goal, and Sevilla’s strategy was obviously effective.
Early in the second half, Valverde struck the post. Andriy Lunin then made a superb save to keep Sevilla’s Isaac Romero at bay.
An injury to the referee occurs before Modric wins
Referee Isiro Diaz de Mera sustained an injury that required him to leave the field in a very unusual circumstance. Fernandez Buergo, who has only ever officiated in the third division of Spanish football, took his place.
The way Sergio Ramos performed was something to note. In addition to his defensive partners, the Real Madrid veteran performed admirably the entire time. But with fewer than ten minutes remaining, Luka Modric managed to end the tie.
Sevilla argued that the Croatian midfielder’s incredible goal was offside throughout the build-up, but it stood.
With one more game completed, Real Madrid now leads Girona by nine points, while Sevilla is still in 15th place.
