Rory McIlroy Leads Leaderboard In Dubai Despite Four Bad Breaks
Though he had a terrible seventh hole, the Northern Irishman is still leading the competition.
The second-ranked player in the world, Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, is leading the Dubai Invitational, a DP World Tour event, by two shots over Yannik Paul of Germany and Jeff Winther of Denmark.
At Dubai Creek Resort, McIlroy recovered from a quadruple bogey on the seventh hole to finish under par (70) and take the lead with 132 shots. He also made five birdies that day. On the other hand, it negated the outstanding opening round he won (62).
Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy said, “If I examine the remaining 17 holes, I performed exceptionally well once more.” “The going becomes tougher, but yesterday I made some solid iron shots and perhaps nailed a few more putts.”
“The greens are hard, the wind was rising, and I made a few mistakes on the eighth. I thought I played some good golf on the way in and did a good job of getting my mind back into it.”
The pursuing group
To stay in contention, Paul concluded with 70 as well, and Winther completed Friday with 66 to finish ahead of a group that included his fellow countryman Thorbjorn Olesen, the Englishmen Tommy Fleetwood, Jordan Smith, and the South Africans Thriston Lawrence and Zander Lombard, who were all tied for seventh place.
Despite dropping spots with an additional 70, Adrian Otaegui is the best-ranked player in the Spanish Armada. He finished tied for tenth place with 137 shots, having made three birdies and two bogeys.
