Sergio Perez: Racing In These Conditions Can Cause Big Crash
Checo Perez, a Red Bull driver, has been frank in his remarks on what happened during the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday in Melbourne.
Three red flags were displayed throughout the race, and the second signaled the start of the last two laps from a standing start.
The sun was setting at the end of the beginning/finish straight, and it was now early dark in Melbourne.
In addition to contacting between Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso, one significant incident involving both Alpines occurred. Also pushed off the track was Perez himself.
The stewards, he believed, took a risky decision when he discussed the incident with reporters following the race. Perez told the media that “It was really dangerous”.
He continued that Warming up first; then the sun made it so we couldn’t see anything. In these circumstances, racing is no longer possible.
There’s going to be a significant shunt one day. Nothing is seen. We were only spectators over the final three laps since we couldn’t see anything. Poor visibility forced me to avoid Gasly as I entered Turn 1.
Perez has mixed emotions about his performance and that of Red Bull. He stated that the DRS train was such a massive mess at the beginning that I had to take much more risk to proceed.
Otherwise, I would have needed more time to finish the race, or I might have spent a bit more.
That was a gamble, and the Raikkonen harmed us because everyone rushed to the pits, which limited our options for strategy and caused us to lose a little bit of timing.
From that point forward, the race becomes slightly more challenging.
