Stefon Diggs Traded By Bills To Texans

On Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills announced that they have reached an agreement to trade wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.

The Texans will receive the 30-year-old Diggs along with a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick, while the Bills will receive a 2025 second-round pick (via Minnesota) as part of the transaction.

The Bills will be responsible for a $31 million dead salary-cap charge in the upcoming season since they traded for Stefon Diggs before June 1. His contract is valid until the 2027 campaign.

It appeared that Diggs and the Bills would part ways.

Diggs had a decline in output following the November replacement of offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey with Joe Brady. He scored just one touchdown for the remainder of the regular season, and both his targets and average receiving yards per game declined. Prior to the coaching change, he had recorded five games with at least 100 receiving yards.

In addition, there was Stefon Diggs’s brother, Trevon Diggs, a cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys, who had been vocally urging Stefon to leave Buffalo.

In 2020, Buffalo traded for Diggs from the Vikings, obtaining Justin Jefferson as a return pick in exchange for a 2020 first-round pick.

General Manager of the Texans Nick Caserio has had a busy offseason, and the acquisition of Diggs is just one more. In addition to Diggs, he has also added running back Joe Mixon, defensive end Danielle Hunter, defensive lineman Denico Autry, and cornerbacks Jeff Okudah and CJ Henderson.

With a winning record of 10-7 and the AFC South title under first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans, the Texans earned the titles of NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (C.J. Stroud) and NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (Will Anderson Jr.).

With the success of tight end Dalton Schultz and wide receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell in their respective seasons, Stroud will now have extra weapon.

The Bills are reorganizing their squad following four consecutive AFC East division titles and three postseason losses to the Kansas City Chiefs. In addition to Diggs, the following players were added this offseason: safety Jordan Poyer, linebacker Leonard Floyd, cornerback Tre’Davious White, center Mitch Morse, and wide receiver Gabe Davis.

After the trade of Diggs and the loss of Davis, Mack Hollins, Curtis Samuel, and Khalil Shakir lead the Bills’ wide receiver depth chart. Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox are the team’s tight end players.
