Top Basketball 2024 Hall Of Fame Nominees Vince Carter, Seimone Augustus, 2008 “Redeem Team”
At the men’s Final Four in April, the Class of 2024 will be revealed, and they will be inducted the following August.
On Thursday afternoon, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame revealed the complete roster of worthy nominees for next year of the class.
A number of noteworthy first-time nominees have made the first cut, even though the Class of 2024 will be formally revealed at the Final Four in April, some months before the introduction of the new inductees.
Longtime Toronto Raptors player and 22-year veteran Vince Carter is one of them. In 1998, the 46-year-old made his league debut and continued to play until he was 43. Prior to current Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and other previous greats like Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki, his 22 seasons in the NBA set a record for the most played.
In his playing career, Bill Laimbeer, a longtime center for the Detroit Pistons and WNBA coach, received his first-ever nomination. With Detroit, he won back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990 during his 15-year career in the league.
Additionally, after more than thirty years of collegiate coaching, Rick Barnes receives his first nomination. In 2019, the Tennessee head coach, formerly of Texas, began his eighth season. Re-nominated are coaches Jim Larrañaga, John Beilein, and Bo Ryan, as well as other former players Chauncey Billups and Shawn Marion.
Seimone Augustus, a veteran WNBA player, received her first nomination for the women’s division. Throughout her 15 seasons in the league, Augustus received eight All-Star selections and four WNBA titles with the Minnesota Lynx.
The 2008 U.S. men’s Olympic team is eligible to be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the team—which included talents like Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, James, and others—won the gold medal. When Team USA faltered and ended their run of three gold medals in the Olympics in 2004 by winning bronze, they were dubbed the “Redeem Team.”
On April 6, at the men’s Final Four, the Hall of Fame will unveil the Class of 2024. The enshrinement ceremony is scheduled for August of the coming year.
