Sam Alvey, a longtime veteran of the UFC, has moved on to another combat sport. On Monday, Alvey joined Karate Combat, a full-contact striking league with eight weight classes, preparing for his debut on September 16 in the Dominican Republic. There was no mention of an opponent.

Karate Combat posted a statement on social media: “With a background in karate, Sam has always been a fan favorite and is known to throw down.”

Alvey notoriously quit the UFC after a 0-8-1 run from September 2018 to August 2022. With significant victories against opponents like Rashad Evans and Nate Marquardt, “Smile’n Sam” finished with a final record of 10-13-1 in the Las Vegas-based promotion. During his MMA career, which started in 2008, he has gone 34-18-1.

At B2 Fight Series 183 in Columbus, Georgia, in May last year, Alvey defeated Cameron Graham through a third-round TKO.
