Charlie Woods Faces Hardships & Lots Of Issues During AJGA Debut
At the American Junior Golf Association’s (AJGA) Will Lowery Junior Championship, Charlie Woods has had a mixed start.
The 15-year-old golfer, who made his debut on the AJGA circuit, was invited to the competition by a sponsor.
But Charlie’s been erratic in his performance so far. He’s now 15 over par at Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, Florida, after playing two rounds.
In his opening round, he shot 78, which included three birdies but was also tarnished by five bogeys, including back-to-back double bogeys on the second and third holes.
How was the second round for Charlie Woods?
Charlie Woods faced similar difficulties in the second round, making eight bogeys, including a double bogey at the par-4 fifth hole. Even though he only managed a single birdie on the par-4 fourth hole, he finished the round with an 81, making his total score 15 over par. Charlie is presently ranked T40 in the 51-player field as the tournament moves into its final round on Sunday.
Still, Charlie’s involvement in this event has attracted a lot of attention from the public and media. According to reports, there will be increased security, including armed police checking IDs thoroughly at the door. This is probably a reaction to Charlie’s experience with disruptive fans during a Cognizant Classic pre-qualifier in February.
To keep the mob from getting out of control, he was compelled to bring in a large number of security guards and armed police officers. His prospects of advancing were hampered in the Cognizant Classic in February by spectators hoping to get a close-up look at the American star performing.
He was unable to concentrate on the green for a significant portion of his run due to the throng of supporters who surrounded the young golfer. They were observed strolling next to him and requesting pictures.
Despite the difficulties, Charlie has had the backing of his father, Tiger Woods, who was spotted encouraging him when he made his AJGA tour debut. Tiger, a 15-time major winner, had secret talks with LIV Golf chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan earlier in the week, so he hurried back from the Bahamas to attend the tournament.
