Baldinger Considers 49ers QB Brock Purdy To Be "Quiet Killer"

Not only has Brock Purdy had a lot of support from the NFL media, but he has also faced criticism ever since he took over as the 49ers’ starting quarterback halfway through the previous season.

“Rich Eisen Show” analyst Brian Baldinger of NFL Network defended the young signal-caller in a recent show.

“I really don’t understand any of the criticism,” Baldinger said to Eisen. “In my opinion, the man is merely a covert killer; despite his apparent ease and confidence, he doesn’t much enjoy being in the spotlight.”

“This guy is as knowledgeable about the industry as anyone in this whole profession. He was channeling Steve Young the other day with his runs. We didn’t realize he could accomplish that, in my opinion, on that platform, against that [Detroit Lions] defense, and with that kind of speed. His movement is exclusively elite. Perhaps his greatest quality is that he plays fearlessly.”

“That’s right, he intercepted a drive that they were in the first quarter. He never imagines playing with [any] greater fear than that. Thus, I believe that he is Kyle Shanahan’s ideal quarterback at this time because he can coach and program Purdy, and if he makes a mistake, he can discipline him just like he does during practice each week. Despite this, Purdy is able to withstand all of this and play without feeling pressure to perform well.”

Baldinger’s endorsement of Purdy’s play is significant because he has over 40 years of experience in the NFL as a player and commentator.

One of the more thrilling tales in the game in recent memory is Purdy’s rise from Mr. Irrelevant as the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to captaining the 49ers to consecutive trips to the NFC Championship Game and, now, a Super Bowl championship.

Even though Purdy struggled in the NFC championship game against the Detroit Lions, he was able to control the game in the second half and help the 49ers overcome a 17-point hole at halfway by using both his legs and his arm to make plays.

The excitement surrounding Brock Purdy is only going to grow in the upcoming weeks as he gets ready to play in Super Bowl LVIII against Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, who is widely considered to be the finest quarterback in the NFL.

In an attempt to capture their first championship since 1995, Purdy and the 49ers will seek to get revenge on Mahomes and the Chiefs for their earlier Super Bowl LIV loss.
