Caroline Garcia Beats Gauff To Get To Miami Open Quarterfinals

In the Miami Open quarterfinals on Monday, Caroline Garcia of France defeated Coco Gauff, ranked third in the world, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

On her home court, Garcia overcame Gauff in one hour and forty-three minutes, continuing her impressive form after defeating four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in straight sets on Sunday.

The match between Romanian Sorana Cirstea and American Danielle Collins on Monday will determine Garcia’s opponent in the round of eight, Miami Open. Garcia, ranked 27th in the world, emerged victorious from the exciting clash that flowed and ebbed.

Garcia won her third career match (3-2) against Gauff, whom she had defeated at the 2022 US Open, but it was her first against a top 10 opponent since late 2022.

“I thought the contest and the victory were both excellent. It has also not been an easy few months. And in light of yesterday’s match, it is obviously significant today. Furthermore, the tennis was excellent.”

Garcia claimed that her tactic of intimidating the American with aggressive tennis had worked.

“It appears that Coco doesn’t really appreciate it when I attempt to be too forceful and take some time off.”

Gauff, a South Florida native, expressed disappointment at not having advanced farther in front of her home fans.

“It was essentially an up-and-down contest, so it’s unfortunate to lose. It was obvious that she would play aggressively going in, so I believe it was crucial for me to just adjust the ball’s height. During most of the second set, I performed that well. The momentum was essentially altered, in my opinion, when the third game began with an early break.”

After defeating American Madison Keys 6-3 7-5, fourth seed Elena Rybakina advanced to the quarterfinals, where she will face Maria Sakkari of Greece.

Due to a right thigh injury, Anna Kalinskaya had to retire prior to their match on Monday; Sakkari advanced with a walkover.

Together with her victory, Victoria Azarenka advanced after defeating Katie Boulter of Britain 7-5, 6-1. Ekaterina Alexandrova will be the opponent of world champion Iga Swiatek later on Monday.
