Cavaliers And Ricky Rubio Decide On Contract Release
Rubio left Spain’s World Cup training camp in August to tend to his mental health after making a comeback to the court in January 2023.
ESPN says that a deal has been struck between Ricky Rubio and the Cleveland Cavaliers to end his contract.
One of the NBA’s most reliable sources, Adrian Wojnarowski, stated on ESPN that Rubio’s NBA career “probably ends” as a result of his firing. Since this past summer, he has taken time off to attend to his mental health.
“If Rubio pursues a professional career, it is likely to return to his home country of Spain, where he began as a 14-year-old prodigy,” according to Wojnarowski. The Athletic was informed on December 20 by Shams Charania, a different writer with excellent NBA connections, which the Cavaliers and the Spanish point guard were in the process of discussing the player’s departure.
Why was Rubio released by the Cavaliers?
This exit is related to the Cavaliers’ desire to add fresh players following the injuries to key players like Evan Mobley and Darius Garland.
Back then, Charania insisted that Rubio was unlikely to play again this season and that his chances of playing competitively again were slim. Rubio committed to the Cavaliers in 2022 for a three-year deal for $18.4 million.
Cleveland, where the 33-year-old point guard arrived in 2021 to add seasoned expertise to a roster full of youthful potential, holds him in the highest esteem and respect. When he was in peak shape in December 2021, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Rubio withdrew from Spain’s World Cup basketball camp last August to tend to his mental health, having returned to the court in January 2023.
