Five Players Poised for Trade Action During the 2024 NFL Draft

As the 2024 NFL Draft looms closer, betting on whether there will be trades that can make waves in the league is almost certain. Though a majority of the makes and breaks often happen in draft picks, there always is a dash of seasoned players that jump to a new team.

In the past five seasons, some of the best players like A.J. Brown, Marquise Brown and Trent Williams were released for being drafted, they suddenly found themselves being traded. Here’s a look at five players who could follow suit this year’s NFL Draft:

 1. RB Khalil Herbert, Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears face a dire backfield dilemma that is figured by Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson and just joined D’Andre Swift. It is envisioned that if Swift would be the player to act as a leader, the Bears will attempt to trade Herbert whose talent cannot be denied but may get obsoleted in the future by the team’s plan.

Apart from the decent numbers he put up, the run-off could advantage them through getting some draft capital, with this year’s draft lacking many of the top running backs.

2. WR Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals’ decision to franchise tag Tee Higgins has led to speculation about his future with the team. Higgins, seeking a lucrative contract, may find himself traded due to the Bengals’ cap constraints and other contractual obligations.

With a deep draft class at wide receiver, Cincinnati could opt to move Higgins for a premium pick, setting themselves up for future success while addressing roster needs.

3. WR Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco 49ers

Brandon Aiyuk’s contract flare-up and the 49ers’ hub-cap situation have led to his future with the team being in question. Though his team could boast of his recent remarkable performance in 2023, the 49ers’ finances may not match the wish item of his income.

Under the cap, and with renewals for critical players on the close horizon, The 49ers can do a swap evaluation with higher picks for Aiyuk, making sure they have some space in the purse while getting young fits in the kit

4. CB Patrick Surtain II, Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos’ supposed venture into a new era for the franchise through a franchise quarterback they plan to acquire at the 2024 draft may see Patrick Surtain II being traded to another team in the most likely scenario.

The fact that the Head coach Sean Payton is willing to trade up the order reveals probably a daring tactic to take the best and the most talented quarterback for which they can be sure that he will remain with them for more than just one season.

Surtain, who has been to two Pro Bowls, could get a high-value trade. It could be the reason why they would have what to work on to get ailing from the problem of the quarterback and remain competitive in the AFC West.

5. WR Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings’ search for a new team’s starting quarterback leaves Justice Jefferson’s future hanging. The Vikings have recently lost their starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins, who signed with free agency.

To resolve this complex situation, they would like to have a long-term plan at the quarterback position. In their quest for the elite quarterback player, the Vikings have run the possibility of Jefferson, this player’s proven playmaker’s solution.

Although the prospect of parting with Jefferson is going to be hard, it may be a smart move to cash it in and build up their draft capital and thus ensure them their champion of tomorrow.

With the NFL Draft approaching, these players have a second chance to be considered as prospects to be traded. However, if they opt to remain on the trade list by the time of the draft, the event would be further heated up. This shift will not be without its minor twists and turns which should form the basis of revamping the whole league.
