Gervonta Davis, Convert, Welcomed By Islamic Community
A lot of people were surprised to know that WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis had converted to Islam.
On December 24, a video that fellow fighter Badou Jack had placed on X revealed the information. There were many kind words and congratulations for the post from the Islamic community. A social media user wrote:
“Alhamdulillah, “Welcome to the Ummah brother. We ask Allah to keep you steadfast on the siratul mustaqeem.”
Another said,
“May Allah shield him from evil and direct him towards the best that this life and the next have to offer. Aameen”
However, a smaller group of people expressed disapproval of Davis’ choice, raising issues regarding his character and casting doubt on the actuality of his conversion.
Gervonta Davis, Not yet a unified champion
Davis is a very well-liked fighter with a 29-0 unbeaten record. Even with his achievements, he has not yet become a unified champion or taken home an unchallenged lightweight crown.
Opportunities to pursue these accomplishments have arisen for Gervonta Davis as Devin Haney is departing the division in 2023. He defeated Ryan Garcia by TKO in his most recent bout, which took place in April.
Although his next opponents are still out in the air, there have been rumors of a rematch with Garcia as well as possible fights with Haney and Shakur Stevenson. In 2024, Davis is anticipated to defend his championship as the recently elevated WBA lightweight champion.
