Ja Morant only participated in nine games this season; following a 25-game ban, he didn’t play again until last month.

Ja Morant Ripped Labrum During Practice, Needs Shoulder Surgery

The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Monday night that Ja Morant would require season-ending surgery in the coming days due to a ruptured labrum in his right shoulder. According to the organization, Morant suffered the injury during a Saturday training session. An MRI on Monday verified the ailment.

The exact incident in practice that resulted in the injury is unknown. When the upcoming season begins, it is anticipated that the 24-year-old will be recovered.

After being suspended for 25 games in June for flashing a gun on social media, Ja Morant only appeared in nine games for the Grizzlies this season. This was just the most recent issue that Morant had to deal with off the court in the past year.

In addition to being connected to events where he was accused of assaulting a teenager at his house and threatening the head of security at a Memphis mall, he was suspended for eight games the previous season after flashing what seemed to be a pistol at a Colorado nightclub. Following a heated game the previous season, his group allegedly threatened Indiana Pacers employees.

Last month, after finishing his ban, Morant led the Grizzlies to victory against the New Orleans Pelicans with a game-winning basket and 34 points. In his nine games this season, Morant has averaged 25.1 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds.

During his month-long suspension, Morant spoke about his circle.

“They gave me a lot of encouragement and even teased me a little, but it was necessary. They said things like, “Indeed, learn from me because a lot of people make mistakes in this world.”

“Have another shot to learn from your mistakes and become a better version of yourself. I can see how it transformed them too, since I’m able to hear it from them a lot: “Ja, I’m really proud of you with how you carry yourself.”

“That, in my opinion, was the positive outcome of this exercise. We truly elevated myself, my family, and my team to new heights, even if I really don’t want it to have occurred.”

Despite their poor 13-23 record, the Grizzlies have won three of their last four games going into their meeting with the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. Despite having no players due to right shoulder pain, they defeated the Phoenix Suns 121-115 on Sunday.
