During the previous season, the 6-foot-5 sophomore from Gaithersburg, Maryland, averaged 16.2 points, 1.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds, helping the Huskies win their sixth NCAA Tournament championship.
In the six games the Huskies played in the NCAA Tournament, Hawkins averaged 16.3 points and shot 50% from 3-point range (21 of 42).
In the Huskies’ victory over San Diego State in the championship game on Monday night, he scored 16 points.
Hawkins disclosed this on Friday while participating in an NBA Today segment on ESPN alongside Coach Dan Hurley.
Hawkins is renowned for having the quickness to unleash a 3-point shot after emerging from a screen. This season, his 3-point percentage was 38.8%.
His 109 3-pointers this season rank second in UConn’s single-season history, only behind Ray Allen’s 115.
Since Charlotte selected James Bouknight with the 11th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Hawkins may be the first player from UConn chosen in the first draft round.
Jordan Hawkins is a high school basketball player from Maryland who is currently in the Class of 2022.
He is known for his ability to score and rebound and has received interest from several college basketball programs.
