Julio Urias To Japan Baseball: How Accurate Mexican Pitcher Report?
A domestic abuse incident forced a former Dodgers pitcher to leave the team.
While the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher was on administrative leave since September 6 pending a fine from Major League Baseball and the settlement of his legal predicament, Julio Urias became a free agent amid a police and MLB investigation into his domestic abuse case.
Despite this, it was said that he was in Japan discussing a new deal with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks at the time. All signs point to a troll being the one who started disseminating misleading information, though.
The untrue rumor about Julio Urias
The user @HanSeongJanNEWS, from whom the original report was issued, is a known troll, according to Yakyu Cosmopolitan, a YouTuber who specializes in Japanese baseball. AlBat.com reported that a user on Twitter pointed out that the source from which the news started to be replicated in the media was false.
Urias is not currently in negotiations with any Major League teams or teams in any other country. He might be waiting for his legal problem to be settled or for a potential sanction to fall before signing, but it’s also likely that no Major League team is keen to work with him.
Pitchers Roberto Osuna and Trevor Bauer, who were suspended from Major League Baseball following their episodes, found success in Japan, citing the NPB as a “lifeline” for players convicted of domestic abuse in the MLB.
The Scandals of Julio Urias
A witness said that Urias had violently attacked his wife when the Mexican was detained on September 3, 2018, during an MLS match between LAFC and Inter Miami, in the stadium’s parking lot. Following an overnight incarceration, the athlete was set free on a $50,000 bond.
Following yet another episode of domestic abuse in 2019, MLB has already suspended Urias for 20 games.
He would be the first player to get two suspensions for breaking the league’s anti-violence rules if he was disciplined once more.
