Michael Lorenzen threw the second no-hitter in as many weeks in Major League Baseball.

At Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday, Lorenzen pitched the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-0 victory over the Washington Nationals, the fourth no-hitter of the MLB season. In his second start with the team that acquired him in a trade last month, Lorenzen threw 124 pitches, got five strikeouts, gave out four walks, and walked one batter.

Since Cole Hamels’ no-hitter in 2015, Lorenzen’s is the first by a Phillie. Before being traded to the Texas Rangers, Hamels made his final start with Philadelphia and pitched a no-hitter. In club history, Lorenzen’s was the fourteenth.

Since moving to Washington, D.C., in 2005, the Nationals have not been hit in a game until this past Wednesday.

Michael Lorenzen, 31, was an All-Star this past season for the Detroit Tigers for the first time in his career. The Phillies then acquired him just before the trade deadline in exchange for infield prospect Hao-Yu Lee. He made his club debut earlier this week, defeating the Miami Marlins and pitching a season-high eight innings.

With this season just beginning, Lorenzen has a career 4.49 ERA. On Wednesday, he had a 3.48 ERA for the season and was presently 7-7.

As of right now, Lorenzen has played for four different organizations. He began his career with the Cincinnati Reds, playing for them for seven seasons. He then played for the Los Angeles Angels for one season before joining the Detroit Tigers.

It is the fourth no-hitter of the year and the first since Houston Astros standout Framber Valdez accomplished it last week. In the Astros’ 2-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians, Valdez faced the required minimum of 27 hitters while tossing the 16th no-hitter in franchise history.

The Detroit Tigers and Matt Manning collaborated to pitch a no-hitter last month. In June, Domingo Germán of the New York Yankees launched a perfect game against the Oakland Athletics. He later left the squad for the remainder of the season after enrolling in a treatment center.

Bryce Harper‘s RBI double and Nick Castellanos’ two-run home run helped the Phillies score three in the first inning on Wednesday. In his debut at-bat in the Major Leagues, Weston Wilson smacked a home run in the second inning. In the third, Castellanos hit another home run.

The Phillies now lead 5-0 after that shocking event. The remaining runs helped Philadelphia to a seven-run victory on RBI singles from Johan Rojas and Alec Bohm, respectively.

In their last ten games, the Phillies have won seven times overall. They are in first place in the NL Wild Card Standings but are 10.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East.
