MLS: Luciano Acosta Goal Of Season Candidate à la Maradona And Messi
The FC Cincinnati forward continues to perform weekly MLS miracles.
Since joining the MLS in 2017 with D.C. United, Luciano “Lucho” Acosta has overwhelmed opponents and danced around defenders. Acosta has been with FC Cincinnati since 2021 and has improved every year.
Acosta’s 2023 is going as well as it can, and with the season almost over, his league-best 15 goals and extra 12 assists have him among the front-runners for MVP. Acosta proved he is in unstoppable form by scoring a goal the fans will never forget on Saturday against Charlotte FC.
Lucho Acosta makes Messi and Maradona proud
Many people were reminded of two legendary goals by fellow Argentinians when Acosta made his frantic run and finish: Lionel Messi‘s strike against Getafe and Diego Maradona’s goal against England.
Since Argentina has so much skill and depth, Acosta has never been called up to the national team, but Lionel Scaloni has undoubtedly taken notice of his recent play.
MLS Cup aspirations of FC Cincinnati
FC Cincinnati defeated Charlotte 3-0 thanks to a goal by Acosta. With nine more points than the next closest club in the entire league and twelve more than the team in second place in the Eastern Conference, Cincy has been the strongest team in the MLS.
Their season was soured by a defeat to Inter Miami in the US Open Cup playoffs, but they still have a good chance of winning the MLS Cup in December.
