Nico Collins Signs Three-Year Contract Extension With Texans
Nico Collins had a fantastic season in 2023 as a wide receiver.
The Houston Texans have agreed on wide receiver Nico Collins to a significant three-year deal extension in a clear attempt to bolster their receiving group.
The dedication Houston has shown to one of its breakout performers from the 2023 season is evident in this deal, which was first reported by Diana Russini of The Athletic.
Nico Collins will earn more than $40 million annually.
Nico Collins will rank among the top ten wide receivers in the NFL in terms of salary according to the agreement, which has a maximum value of $72.75 million and a $52 million guarantee.
The league’s highest-paid receiver, A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles, makes more money than any other receiver, with an average yearly pay of roughly $24.2 million, placing him just ahead of DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks.
The expensive deal was mostly influenced by Collins’s 2023 performance.
He nearly missed being selected to his first Pro Bowl despite recording career highs in all categories with 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns.
His first two seasons of the NFL saw him amass 70 receptions for 927 yards and three scores; this incredible season followed a rather quiet beginning to his career.
The performance of Nico Collins has impressed Texans.
Before, Texans general manager Nick Caserio made a suggestion about these talks when he stated that the team wanted to have Collins around for the long run.
After negotiations, both sides came to a mutually beneficial deal with Collins’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who is well-known for representing elite talent.
Collins is signed through the 2027 campaign thanks to this agreement, but it also begs the issue of what will happen to Stefon Diggs, another big offseason acquisition.
After this season, Diggs will become a free agency thanks to a contract modification made by the Texans.
It looks more and more likely that Diggs’ time in Houston may be limited now that Collins is entrenched.
With players like quarterback C.J. Stroud, tight end Dalton Schultz, running backs Dameon Pierce and Joe Mixon, and receivers Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell, the Texans offense seems strong on paper.
The club is ready for another great performance after winning ten games and a playoff match in 2023. Over the course of two games in the postseason, Collins caught 11 receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown, demonstrating his worth.
The Texans value him as a valued asset because of his consistency and annual improvement.
