Panthers QB Bryce Young May Miss Week 3 Against Seahawks Owing To Ankle Injury
Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has an ankle injury and could miss Week 3 against the Seahawks.
Bryce Young of the Carolina Panthers has an ankle injury and could miss Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Young missed practise on Wednesday due to an ankle issue, according to head coach Frank Reich, and would be evaluated again on Thursday.
“We’ll see how he is tomorrow,” Reich predicted.
Young was in the Carolina Panthers’ 20-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. Reich stated on Wednesday that he got his ankle examined out after the game.
Young’s injury had previously gone unnoticed. Reich stated that it is unclear on what play Young was injured.
If Young is unable to play, Andy Dalton will start against the Seahawks. On Wednesday, he worked out with the starters.
“This is why you bring someone like Andy,” Reich explained. “If Andy plays, we believe he gives us a good chance of winning….” The game plan is the same whether it’s Bryce or Andy.”
After speaking with Young about the injury, Reich said he can’t speak to the magnitude of it, but he doesn’t believe it affected Young’s play against the Saints.
Young, the first overall pick in the April draft, has started both of Carolina’s games this season, going 0-2 against the Saints and Atlanta Falcons.
He’s completed 42 of 71 passes (59.2%), averaging 149.5 yards per game and 4.2 yards per attempt while throwing two touchdowns and two interceptions. He has absorbed six sacks while constantly being under pressure behind a new offensive line. He fumbled twice and lost both times.
Young, according to Reich, need more practice time during the week than a veteran because of his lack of NFL experience.
“How many days of practise does a young player need to play vs. a 10-year vet?” Reich stated. “If he’s a younger player, perhaps you should have him practise a little more.” That is an example of anything we consider and factor into the calculation. It all counts.”
Dalton is a veteran backup quarterback in the NFL. Since departing the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020, he’s seen substantial playing time as a backup and fill-in starter with the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints.
