Phillies' Spring Home Opening Lineup Has An Array Of Regulars

On Sunday afternoon, the Phillies’ will play their first home game of spring training with four regular players starting.

At 1:05 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Phillies take on the Yankees. Along with a number of other important relievers who are scheduled to work, Aaron Nola is scheduled to start and last two innings. In their split-squad games against the Phillies’ in Clearwater and the Blue Jays in Tampa, the Yankees will be led by pitcher Marcus Stroman.

Matt Castellanos, Kyle Schwarber, Bryson Stott, and Trea Turner bat first through fourth. Considering how often Schwarber has played leadoff over the last two seasons, it’s interesting to see this lineup configuration even if it’s not even March yet.

A day after going home, tripling, and scoring four runs, Weston Wilson bats fifth.

  • Trea Turner, SS
  • Bryson Stott, 2B
  • Nick Castellanos, RF
  • Kyle Schwarber, DH
  • Weston Wilson, 3B
  • Darick Hall, 1B
  • Cristian Pache, CF
  • Jake Cave, LF
  • Garrett Stubbs, C

If Whit Merrifield, Edmundo Sosa, and Stubbs take the other three bench spots, Pache and Cave will compete for the Phillies‘ last spot. Wilson, who reached base in 11 of his 22 major league plate appearances last season and blasted 31 home runs and 32 steals at Triple A, is also vying for that position.
