Red Sox And Liam Hendriks Agree To A Two-Year Deal
Liam Hendriks, a free agent reliever, has joined the Boston Red Sox, strengthening their bullpen.
Various reports state that the 35-year-old right-hander has agreed to a $10 million, two-year contract with the possibility of earning more through performance bonuses. The agreement also includes a mutual option for 2026, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB Network.
However, the Red Sox won’t benefit from this move in the early part of the season. The second half of the 2024 season may see Hendriks’ comeback after he had Tommy John surgery in August of 2023.
After overcoming cancer and going back to pitch for the Chicago White Sox, Hendriks was named the 2023 American League Comeback Player of the Year. He was only able to make five appearances in the previous season due to elbow discomfort.
Liam Hendriks played for the Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, and White Sox before making his MLB debut in 2011. 2019–2021–2022–2022–He was an All-Star. AL Reliever of the Year went to Hendriks in 2020 and 2021. In 2021, he led the AL with a career-high 38 saves.
For the previous six seasons, Hendriks has been among the top relievers in the game. His potential to be a very great addition to Boston’s bullpen might be enhanced if his Tommy John surgery recovery proceeds accordingly.
