Sancho Returns On Loan To Dortmund After Banished From Manchester United

On Thursday, less than three years after Manchester United paid £73 million ($93 million, 85 million euros) for the England winger, Jadon Sancho returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season.

After getting into a public altercation with manager Erik ten Hag, Sancho was benched for most of the United season.

In September, the 23-year-old claimed on social media that the club was using him as a “scapegoat” for his subpar play after he was left off the matchday roster during a 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

After that, Sancho was made to practice apart from the starting lineup and has not appeared in a single game for the Red Devils.

Sancho was never worth the money he was paid at Old Trafford, even before his relationship with the former Ajax manager soured.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ten Hag, he managed to maintain a regular first-team spot, but he only managed 12 goals in 82 games.

However, he hopes that rejoining the team where he first established himself as one of Europe’s emerging talents will help him resurrect his career.

Sebastian Kehl, the sports director of Dortmund, stated,

“Jadon is a true game changer, and I’m excited to see him back in black and yellow soon. He is familiar with our supporters, our club, the stadium, and this city. Despite the fact that he hasn’t participated in any competitive games recently, we are certain that he will swiftly acclimatize to life back with us, return to his best, and use his skills to help us accomplish our season objectives.”

Sancho has agreed to accept a hefty pay reduction from his rumored £300,000 weekly salary, according to German media, which also claims the arrangement would cost Dortmund almost four million euros.

Sancho, who arrived in Dortmund at the age of 17 from the Manchester City academy, joined the team and helped them win the German Cup in 2021 and the German Super Cup in 2019. In 137 games, he scored 50 goals and handed out 64 assists.

“It was like “coming home” when I walked into the changing room today. I’ve always been really connected to the supporters here; I know the club inside and out, and there was never a lapse in communication with the management.”

“I’m eager to get back again with my colleagues on the pitch, play football with joy, set and assist goals, and contribute to our team’s Champions League qualifying.”

Dortmund is placing its money on Sancho finding his previous form again to save the season. Before the German season ended for the winter break, they had only one win in their previous eight games, placing them sixth in the Bundesliga and six points outside of the Champions League spots.

Although they eliminated AC Milan and Newcastle to advance to the round of 16, where they will take on PSV Eindhoven, Dortmund did manage to win the most difficult group in the Champions League.

When the summer transfer window rolls around, United is also hoping that Sancho can prove to the world why they spent a lot of money on him.

With United struggling in his second season as manager, Ten Hag has come under fire for his inability to work out a resolution and get the most out of one of his big players.

With 14 losses in 29 games this season, the English powerhouses have tumbled to ninth place in the Premier League standings and are eliminated from both the League Cup and European play.

The possibility of Sancho representing his nation in Germany at Euro 2024 later this year might perhaps be restored with a reversal of events.

His team, England, advanced to the 2021 European Championship final; however, they lost to Italy in a penalty shootout when he missed one of the most important spot kicks.

However, October 2021 was the final of Sancho’s 23 caps for his country.
