Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky of the Florida Panthers was substituted after giving up four goals on 13 shots against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday.
The 13-year veteran allowed four goals in back-to-back games for the first time this playoffs. He also let up four in each of his final two regular-season contests.
In the opening frame, Vegas established a 2-0 lead with two goals from Jonathan Marchessault and Alec Martinez as the Golden Knights sought to take control of the best-of-seven series.
Just 2:59 into the second period, Nicolas Roy increased the score to 3-0. Minutes later, Brett Howden ended Bobrovsky’s evening when he ducked across the goal crease and tapped the ball into an empty net.
After Howden scored at 7:10 in the second, Bobrovsky was replaced by Alex Lyon, who had started Florida’s playoff series.
By winning 11 of his previous 12 games and turning aside 438 of his opponents’ 465 shots for a goals-against average of 1.95 and a save percentage of.942 in that time, going into the championship, Bobrovsky was the league’s top goalkeeper.
The two-time winner of the Vezina Trophy now has a 5.52 GAA and 0.826 save percentage in the championship game.
