Oscar de la Hoya Desires New Collaboration With Canelo Alvarez
The Mexican and the promoter had previously worked together, but things didn’t work out.
Being a well-known boxing promoter, Oscar de la Hoya hopes to work with the finest to arrange captivating bouts.
Once again, he has his eyes set on Canelo Alvarez, who is regarded as one of the world’s top boxers in terms of power per punch and the dominant super middleweight champion.
The Jalisco fighter and the promoter had previously collaborated, but their partnership turned sour in 2020.
De la Hoya said, “I was snubbed when Saul Alvarez indicted me.”
At the time of Saul Alvarez‘s partnership with Golden Boy Promotions, the Guadalajara native was awarded a DAZN deal of 365 million dollars for 11 fights. However, the parties’ connection was terminated shortly after when the Mexican sued the promoter, De la Hoya, and DAZN.
De la Hoya stated, “His allegation that I don’t know what I did wrong slightly snubbed me. I never lied to him; I always did my best to earn his large money, and I never stopped fighting for him. Naturally, I signed him to the largest deal in sports history, but I’m not really sure what went wrong.”
“That’s the past, in my opinion; let’s go on and focus on the future, where there are many options. Particularly considering that I am a pocho who is Mexican-American and he is Mexican; yet, there are plenty of things you can do to collaborate in order to develop the sport and improve lives, which is what we do and I find really enjoyable.”
What caused Canelo Alvarez to distance himself from Oscar de la Hoya?
Canelo Alvarez told The Breakfast Club that De la Hoya is not a person to be trusted.
“I trust that while you’re speaking with him, you can’t be sure if he’s being honest or untruthful. To him, we owed loyalty. Being faithful, I was the only warrior who stuck by him when everything fell apart. I also treat everyone as if they were family, and I also treated Golden Boy that way, though I don’t believe he is that sort of guy. He doesn’t seem like the person he is, and I’m not sure if that makes him a good guy or not.” At that time, Alvarez stated, “With him, everything is business.”
