Aaron Judge Leads Yankees Beat Twins With Four Extra-Base Hits
On Wednesday night in Minnesota, the Yankees defeated the Twins 4-0 thanks to four extra-base hits by Aaron Judge, including a home run, and six scoreless innings of pitching from Marcus Stroman.
These should be remembered…
–A huge 467-foot home run by Judge off of Pablo Lopez in the first inning opened the score. Three rows back in Target Field’s upper deck, the ball traveled 113 mph off the bat. Giancarlo Stanton‘s single in the third inning would bring him home, and he would double again in his next at-bat.
In his third at-bat, Judge added another double, and in his fourth, he scored an RBI double. Aaron Judge finished with a walk and a 4-for-4 record. The slugger is 23 for 50 with seven home runs and sixteen RBI in his last 17 games.
–It was Lopez and the Twins that were defeated by the Yankees offense. The Yankees managed 13 hits, but they were unable to take advantage of heavy traffic. Everybody had at least one hit except Anthony Rizzo. Anthony Volpe extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the eighth inning.
–With two walks and a mistake by Volpe, the Twins loaded the bases in the second inning, which caused Stroman, who had just come off a rough start against the Astros, to battle early with command. With just two hits allowed in his first four innings, the right-hander managed to get out of difficulty and establish himself.
Three walks and two strikeouts were recorded in Stroman‘s six innings of work (91 pitches, 55 strikes). After his second start of the season on April 5, Stroman’s performance on Wednesday was his first scoreless game.
–Luke Weaver pitched two shutout innings despite having to maneuver around some base traffic. Finally, Caleb Ferguson closed out the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Against the Yankees’ pitchers, the Twins bats managed just four hits in total.
