Charlie Woods Faces First Severe Setback After Losing It To US Open
For the great Tiger Woods’ kid, it was a long shot from the start.
Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, unexpectedly had a bad round at the local qualifying event for the U.S. Open, which put a stop to his golfing career.
After helping The Benjamin School win the 2023 state title and bragging about winning a high school state championship—a goal his father never accomplished—this defeat is a serious setback for the young golfer.
Charlie Woods, 15, was playing at the Legacy Golf & Tennis Club. He struggled early and could not get back into the game, ending with a 9-over 81. He did everything he could to earn one of the five spots that would have sent him to the 36-hole qualifying event in June, but it was not to be.
Charlie had previously tried to qualify for a significant event. He demonstrated earlier this year that even for people with well-known last names, the path to golf success can be difficult when he fired an 86 in a pre-qualifying round for the Cognizant Classic.
Charlie Woods is in for a lengthy career.
Charlie started the golf competition with a disadvantage because there were 10,084 participants competing for 80 spots. Charlie isn’t going to give up on his dream of being a professional golfer, even after his disappointment.
He will play in the qualifying rounds of the 2024 U.S. Amateur Golf Championship and the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship later this summer.
Despite the fact that this loss may be a setback for Charlie, it is evident that he has the skill and will to overcome obstacles and carry on his father’s legendary golf career.
