Fernando Alonso Is Honored With An Asteroid
For the most part, Fernando Alonso‘s stunning on-track accomplishments are what get him attention. However, intriguing news on Alonso’s 33rd triumph, which has yet to occur, has come from the Foundation of Astronomy and Astronautics of Mallorca (FIAAM).
In a news release, the FIAAM has amusingly urged Alonso to visit Costitx in Mallorca, taking advantage of this week’s Spanish Grand Prix. Alonso will have an asteroid named after him by FIAAM.
The designation 73533 refers to this celestial object, a stony body more significant than a meteoroid but smaller than a planet.
FIAAM’s press release read that,
“We urge Fernando to honor his biggest trophy, one which travels at a speed of 9km/s in an orbit between Mars and Jupiter.”
“It is a large asteroid discovered by the Astronomical Observatory of Mallorca located in Costitx and will serve him to reconcile with the universe and victories.”
“From the FIAAM we believe we know how to help Alonso to achieve his 33rd world championship victory.”
“As a distinguished holder of a celestial body with his name, we stress the importance that people who have the honor of being named by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), testify their gratitude to the cosmos for such a trophy.”
The two-time F1 champion from Spain is involved in a serious lawsuit. The Astronomical Observatory of Mallorca first identified the four-kilometer-long asteroid 73533 in 2003. It is situated in the central belt between Mars and Jupiter and has a diameter of this belt.
“This asteroid has a peculiar numbering ending in 33, the same number of victories that the Asturian is pursuing in his long career in the highest category of world motorsport and that, this year at last, he can compete thanks to the great performance of his AMR23 of the Aston Martin team. That is why, from the FIAAM, we invite Fernando to officially receive his asteroid in Costitx, Mallorca.”
