Newman will compete in “selected events” with the back marker team at Darlington on May 14, as per an announcement from Rick Ware Racing.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Rick Ware Racing and Ford.” “I think this will be good for all of us with our combined experience and knowledge.”

Since the conclusion of his time with Roush Fenway Racing in the 2021 season, Newman has not started a Cup Series race. He placed 28th in the standings with two top-five finishes and five top-10s. Newman left NASCAR in 2022 when Brad Keselowski switched to the newly renamed Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing. His Cup Series career was gone as he competed in Tony Stewart’s SRX summer series.

Even if it’s still going on, it will only last for a little while. While competing part-time for RWR, Newman, 45, has yet to claim a Cup Series victory since 2017. He is still determining if to add to his current record of 18 triumphs.

Eight of Newman’s 18 victories in the top division of NASCAR occurred in 2003, when he placed sixth in the standings, spread throughout 22 seasons. In 2014, despite not having a victory, he came in second to Kevin Harvick in the class.

In the penultimate lap of the 2020 Daytona 500, Newman, who had made the playoffs and placed 15th in 2019, was hurt in a collision. An automobile struck the driver’s side of Newman’s upside-down car at almost full speed. Despite having a head injury and being taken right away to the hospital, he only missed three races due to NASCAR‘s suspension due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Since eight drivers started races with RWR in 2023, the team has yet to field a full-time driver. After being arrested for felony violence in April, Cody Ware, Rick’s son, was scheduled to run full-time for the team in 2023. However, he has now been suspended indefinitely.
