WWE And UFC Unveil Historic Partnership That Fans Will Adore
Fans of MMA and wrestling are going crazy over the announcement of a historic partnership between WWE and UFC. Last night, preparations for NXT Battleground, which will take place on Sunday, June 9 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, were unveiled, highlighting the collaboration between WWE and the UFC’s TKO Group Holdings.
Stated by Shawn Michaels, senior vice president of talent development and creative for WWE.
“In collaboration with the UFC, we are thrilled to bring Battleground to this elite event and production venue. We are constantly looking for new ways to highlight NXT.”
The parent company of the UFC, Zuffa, merged with WWE to form TKO Group Holdings, which was created by Endeavor. Under the TKO umbrella, WWE and UFC have been functioning as separate entities since their merger in September of last year.
Ari Emanuel, the CEO of Endeavor, took over as the company’s CEO after former WWE president Vince McMahon sold approximately $700 million worth of TKO shares after the merger. With the merger, Nick Khan was named WWE President, while Mark Shapiro is the company’s President and Chief Operating Officer. Dana White is still the CEO of the UFC in the interim.
On June 18, 2019, the UFC APEX officially debuted. It gained notoriety during the COVID-19 epidemic by serving as the center of all US-based UFC events that were staged in private.
