Whereas his team is down 0-2 to the Celtics, Young, who is the driving force behind the Atlanta Hawks offence, has failed to live up to expectations.
In order to have any chance of winning the series while being massive underdogs, Atlanta needed huge performances from Young, which is something that he has done in the past.
Instead, Young is shooting just 35.0 percent overall and 23.1 percent from three through the first two games of the series, percentages that are eerily identical to those he shot in the Heat series the previous year.
During the three-game sweep versus Miami, Young had a total shooting percentage of 31.9 percent and a shooting percentage of 18.4 percent from beyond the arc.
A considerable decrease from the 25.5 points per game he scored on average during his career during the regular season has led to the 24-year-old’s current playoff scoring average of 16.7 points over seven games played over the course of two years against two different teams.
Young has not been able to overcome his difficulties despite the success of other young guards in this postseason, such as Donovan Mitchell, Devin Booker, and De’Aaron Fox, amongst others.

He was a member of the Oklahoma Sooners basketball team in college. In 2017, he had 22 assists in one game, which was good enough to tie the NCAA Division I record.
Young made history by being the first player to ever lead the NCAA in scoring and assists in the same season.
The Dallas Mavericks selected “Ice Trae” with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NBA draught before trading him to the Atlanta Hawks for the draught rights to Luka Doni.
He was also a unanimous pick for the 2019 NBA All-Rookie First Team, joining Doni. He has made the NBA All-Star team twice.
