Baltimore Ravens’ OT Ronnie Stanley has been grappling with ankle issues since the latter half of the 2020 season. However, he now finally feels revitalized and free from discomfort.
During a recent interview at the Ravens minicamp, the offensive tackle opened up about his struggles with his troublesome ankle and provided an update on his current condition. He expressed, “This is the best I’ve felt since the preseason of 2020, back in 2019.”
Stanley shed light on how his time over the past few years has primarily focused on rehabilitation. He explained, “Around 80% of my offseason was dedicated to rehabilitating my ankle, with only 20% allocated to training.
But now, I’ve shifted my focus to training, enhancing my strength, endurance, and overall athleticism. It has made a tremendous difference for me.”
Stanley, who signed a five-year, $98.75 million extension with the Ravens in October 2020, suffered a season-ending ankle injury just two days after securing the contract. This injury has plagued him for the majority of the past two years.
In his efforts to recover for the 2021 season, Stanley worked diligently, but unfortunately, he could only participate in one game, which was Baltimore’s season-opener against Las Vegas.
It became evident that he wasn’t able to perform at his best. In 2022, despite high expectations for his return to full strength, Stanley encountered further struggles with his ankle, causing him to miss the first month of the season and two additional games.
These ankle issues took a toll on Stanley’s productivity, as reflected in his career-low Pro Football Focus blocking grade of 69.4 (excluding the grade earned from his one game in 2021).
