Arman Tsarukyan is sure that he can end Islam Makhachev‘s tenure as the UFC lightweight champion.
Arman Tsarukyan (20-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC), who has won seven of his last eight fights, most recently defeated Joaquim Silva by TKO in the third round at UFC on ESPN 47.
Tsarukyan lost a Fight of the Night effort to Makhachev in his UFC debut in April 2019. Tsarukyan scored one takedown and outhit Makhachev overall, but Makhachev won the decision thanks to his six minutes of control time and four takedowns.
Since then, Makhachev has won seven matches, including victories over Alexander Volkanovski, the featherweight champion, and Charles Oliveira twice.

“It’s my opinion… It’s my dream fight. All my focus is on being a champion. That’s why I called him out. We’ll see. Maybe next year we’ll fight with each other. I want to see my improvements. I want to show my skills. I think that fight is the most competitive one for me.”

Tsarukyan considers himself in a better position on the feet and believes that if the champions decide to run the fight back, he can prevent takedowns.
“I think I’m going to defend his wrestling and beat him in the standup.”
“I believe my striking is better—my kicks, my boxing. He has a good clinch, but I think my footwork, my kicks, and my boxing are much better. He has good things to striking, too. We’ve got to be careful. I know how I can beat him, and I want to show it to everybody. It’s going to be a tough fight, but I believe in myself, and I’ll go there just for the win.”
