Jack Hughes Sidelined For Weeks Due to An Upper-Body Injury
It looks like the Devils will be missing their finest player for some time.
After receiving the updated injury report on Jack Hughes, the whole New Jersey Devils organization is undoubtedly exhaling with relief.
Hughes will be out for a few weeks due to an upper-body injury, according to Devils head coach Lindy Ruff, before the team’s Sunday game against the Chicago Blackhawks. The team’s athletic staff and the standout forward stayed in New Jersey.
The 22-year-old lost control of his skates and collided forcefully with the boards on Friday after creating a grade-a scoring opportunity against the St. Louis Blues. Hughes appeared to be going to lose a substantial amount of time at first look.
According to Ruff, the Devils are “fortunate” that the diagnosis wasn’t more serious.
Jack Hughes appears to be a strong contender for the Hart Trophy in 2023–2024 thus far. In terms of points (20), assists (15), and power-play points (12), the 2019 first-overall pick is tied for the league lead. Hughes may very well be considered one of the NHL’s top 10 players, if not the best five. Furthermore, it has nothing to do with his dismal two points per game average throughout the season’s first ten games.
With his ability to glide off the rush, Hughes is one of the league’s most dynamic players, maybe surpassed only by Connor McDavid. Only McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and David Pastrnak have scored more primary points per 60 minutes than Hughes (3.24) since the 2022–23 season began.
With 10 games played, the Devils have a 6-3-1 record. Nico Hischier has been out of the game since October 27 against Buffalo due to an upper-body injury, so Hughes is not the only important New Jersey forward not playing.
“Every squad must cope with injuries. We’re dealing with a few serious injuries, it’s also a terrific chance for other players to step up, though.”
